Text Book Project

To ensure that all students at the Old Kampala Senior Secondary School have access to textbooks

Facts:
 Less than 10% of the 2000 students currently enrolled in classes Senior 1 to Senior 6 have access to standard textbooks.
 Most students rely on classroom notes prepared by their teachers using books that are outdated editions.
 Despite this severe limitation, many students continue to achieve stellar grades in both ‘O’ and ‘A’ level exams.

Phase I: A pilot project that will provide 100 copies of textbooks for 4 subjects that were voted by all the heads of departments at a meeting convened by OKAS Fund in July 2016.The books, which will remain the property of the school, will be used by all classes on a rotational basis. The class teacher and the head boys/girls will ensure that ALL the text books are securely locked up at the end of each day. We anticipate the text books to last for a minimum of 5 years. The headmistress and the head teachers have provided a list of essential textbooks for the following subjects
• Mathematics (4 books)
• Biology (4 books)

• Geography (3 books)

Phase II: Full implementation of the project will be undertaken following the successful completion of the pilot project. For this phase, textbooks in the additional following subjects will be provided: Agriculture, Chemistry, English Language, English Literature, Fine Arts, History, and Physics.
Estimated Costs:
Every effort will be made to procure the text books locally. The estimated costs of the two phases are as follows:
